The Bluebird

                                    The Bluebird

After my father passed away, I brought home the little toy blue bird, that I had given Dad years ago. When a button is pressed, this bluebird sings, " Zippity-doo-dah”, which is a cheery song. (the lyrics are, "Zippity-doo-dah, zippity day, My, Oh, My, what a wonderful day! Plenty of sunshine heading my way—zippity-doo-dah, zippity-day!") It was especially dear, as our parents had read us a beloved book, The Bluebird of Happiness, when we were children.
The bluebird was placed in the same spot, that my parents had kept it, perched on top of the dining room hutch. Unfortunately, now the aged bird did not work very well, and would not sing anything, when the button was pressed, but only chirped and then would not stop chirping. I was thankful that it did stop.
One afternoon, a dear old friend called me from across the country. Her father and my father had been friends, and they had introduced us over 40 years ago. When I was newly at college and feeling alone, my parents had sent word to my friend. She was a year ahead of me, in college and she had invited me to a meeting, where I had accepted Jesus as my Savior and then she helped disciple me. Eventually, my friend went on staff with an organization, dedicated to reaching college students for Jesus.
During the telephone conversation with my friend, suddenly the blue bird, on the hutch, just piped up on its own and sang “Zippity-dooh-dah” right out of the “blue”! It was so loud, that I had to take the phone out of the room!
Later that evening, I had put the photo of Dad and his little sister, as toddlers, on the wall in the living room, and displayed the flag, that we were given, when Dad passed away, because he had been a veteran in the US military. I was just thinking that Dad would approve, when again the blue bird piped right up and sang “Zippity-dooh-dah”! But I can’t get the bird to sing anything by pressing the buttons!
Somehow, the Lord wanted to encourage us to let us know that Dad is happy with Him and showing His blessing and favor.
